Avalon

The only incorporated city on Catalina, Avalon wraps around beautiful Avalon Bay on the southeast end of the island. A popular tourist destination for well over a century, this historic seaside destination has attracted film stars, dignitaries and presidents throughout the years, and it still maintains its charm and allure today. Avalon offers numerous hotels, restaurants, beaches, spa experiences, land & ocean adventures, a golf course and a host of recreational activities for visitors to enjoy.

Those arriving in Avalon via high-speed ferry will dock at the Cabrillo Mole boat landing. From there it’s a short walk to the main part of town. Luggage service is available for visitors staying at Pavilion Hotel or Hotel Atwater, and private transportation is provided for guests staying at Mt Ada.

Crescent Ave. is the main street surrounding Avalon Bay. Known by locals as Front Street, this scenic walkway features architectural elements like the Serpentine Wall and Wrigley Fountain adorned with authentic Catalina tile. Many of the town’s beachesshops, and restaurants are found along Crescent Ave.

The Green Pier, which extends out into the harbor near the junction of Crescent St. and Catalina Ave., is the launching point for all Catalina Island Company ocean tours, including Undersea Sub ExpeditionGlass Bottom BoatDiscover Two Harbors, and seasonal Flying Fish Voyage.

The Tour Plaza, which is located one block from the beach between Catalina and Sumner Avenues, is the starting point for all Catalina Island Company land tours, including Discover AvalonBison Expedition, Explore El Rancho EscondidoJourney to the Sky, and Ridgetop Eco Adventure.

Commissioned by William Wrigley Jr., the Catalina Casino opened in 1929, marking the 10-year anniversary of Wrigley's 1919 purchase of Catalina Island. Nearly a century later, this historic icon stands as a reminder of the days when millions made the 26-mile trip across the sea to enjoy a movie, dinner, and dancing during the Casino’s heyday as the hub of Avalon nightlife.

Stroll along the waterfront past the iconic Catalina Casino to Descanso Beach Club. It's home to Catalina's only beachside restaurant and bar (open seasonally) and one of the last private beaches in California open to the public. It's also one of the few places where you can legally have a drink in your hand and your feet in the sand...at the same time. Book your own slice of paradise with Descanso Beach Club Cabanas and Chaise Lounges (open seasonally). Rent a kayak, SUP or snorkel gear at DBOS. Take off on Catalina’s top-rated adventure – Catalina Island Zip Line Eco Tour. Climb, swing and crawl through a series of challenging obstacles suspended in a grove of towering eucalyptus on the Catalina Aerial Adventure. Experience the thrill and anticipation, as a trained bird of prey swoops down and gently lands on your outstretched hand on the Catalina Falconry Experience.

Catalina Island Company ticket booths are located at the Tour Plaza, Green Pier, Catalina Casino, and ferry terminal.

Avalon is also home to many points of interest, including Descanso Beach Club, Catalina Island Museum for Art & History, Wrigley Memorial & Botanical Gardens, Casino Point Dive Park, Lovers Cove Marine Preserve and the Catalina Casino.

We look forward to seeing you in Avalon!
