An exceptional guest experience in the heart of Avalon
Originally opened in 1920, Hotel Atwater was the first hotel built under the direction of William Wrigley Jr. after he purchased the Catalina Island Company more than a century ago. He named the hotel in honor of Helen Atwater Wrigley, wife of his son Philip Knight Wrigley.
Completely renovated in 2019, this historic hotel stays true to the Wrigley family legacy with nostalgic elements like vases filled with fragrant carnations and sparkling wine receptions every evening in the lobby, tributes to Helen’s love of flowers and glass of bubbly she enjoyed every evening before bed.
Inviting Island-inspired Escape
The casual island aesthetic of the hotel’s inviting lobby, where guests can gather to share their island experiences, offers a contemporary twist on Helen’s enduring style and Catalina’s world-famous hospitality. Guestrooms combine rich wood accents, bright colors, ocean-inspired finishes and hints of exotic art deco to create a memorable "Island Deco" escape.
Modern Comforts & Conveniences
Suites feature king beds, one and a half baths, a separate living space with sleeper sofa, bar and desk, and views of the ocean, town of Avalon or surrounding mountains. Standard rooms offer king or queen beds. All rooms are equipped with modern comforts and conveniences, including premium mattresses, luxurious linens, mini-refrigerators, digital concierge tablets, high-speed Wi-Fi and smart televisions.
An elevator, ADA-compliant rooms, meeting and event space, and other resort-style services and amenities further enhance the guest experience, making Hotel Atwater one of Catalina’s premier lodging destinations.
