WATERFRONT DINING IN AVALON
Avalon’s newest waterfront restaurant, Pier 24, is an homage to the original Steamer Pier once home to William Wrigley’s cross-channel vessels, the S.S. Avalon and Catalina, with the S.S. Catalina being commissioned in 1924. For many years, the pier served as the docking place for eager visitors to first step onto the island playground. Along the way, passengers would frequently marvel at the sight of a pod of dolphins playing or flying fish skimming across the water. Magazines, souvenirs, snacks, and drinks were served on board, while bands played music for excited guests. Upon docking, visitors were greeted by a contingent of local townspeople as young people dived for coins tossed by passengers from the steamer.
Today, Pier 24 is a contemporary restaurant, celebrating the enthusiasm of so many visitors and iconic ships that have crossed the channel, with its open and airy dining area displaying whimsical, sometimes animated, vintage photos from a bygone era. Large picture windows look out onto the harbor for amazing views. A step out onto one of two patios offers the ideal setting to enjoy the ocean breeze while gazing at the iconic Catalina Casino and bobbing boats in the harbor.
Dine with us at the latest addition to the Avalon dining scene for a variety of salads, fresh seafood, specialty pizzas, pasta, burgers, paninis, and sandwiches. Also available are specialty cocktails, craft beers and wonderful wines – and, of course, you’ll want to save room for Pier 24’s delightful desserts. Our younger guests can delight in classics, including pizza and chicken tenders. There is something for everyone at our beautiful harbor front location.
