CATALINA ISLAND COMPANY LAUNCHES NEW ‘RUMBLE & TREK’ TOUR, PART OF GROWING TREND FOCUSING ON OUTDOOR DESTINATIONS THIS FALL

New Tour is One of Many Socially Distanced Activities Offered as Part of a Relaxing Catalina Island Getaway

AVALON, CALIF. (SEPT 15, 2020) — Experts are predicting that the biggest trend for travel this fall will continue to be safety first, with domestic destinations, outdoor activities and fewer crowds ranking high among the most popular criteria for getaways.

Catalina Island Company, which operates hotels, dining establishments, venues and activities throughout California’s Catalina Island, has seen increased demand for its land and ocean tours that allow visitors to responsibly experience the wide-open spaces and fresh ocean breezes of the island.  Its new Rumble & Trek tour, announced today, combines two of the island’s most popular activities into one exhilarating outdoor adventure that is an amazing way to experience Catalina Island like never before.

The new Rumble & Trek tour begins aboard a biofuel Hummer, powered by clean-burning recycled vegetable oil, for a thrilling ride through the hills and a spectacular view from 1,602 feet at Catalina’s Airport-in-the-Sky. From there, participants are provided a bottle of water before embarking on a guided 2.2-mile hike with a trained naturalist on the Airport Loop Trail, highlighted by gorgeous vistas of El Rancho Escondido, Buffalo Springs and the former Soapstone Quarry. The experience concludes with a signature “Killer Cookie” at the historic airport’s DC-3 Grill before returning to Avalon via Hummer. The Rumble & Trek tour is $99 per person. The tour launches on September 16, 2020 and reservations are recommended.

“Secluded and close to home, especially for those on the West Coast, Catalina Island is the perfect getaway for those looking to take a trip in a thoughtful and responsible way,” said Randy Herrel, Sr., president and chief executive officer of Catalina Island Company. “Catalina Island Company offers a range of naturally distanced activities – such as Rumble & Trek – as well as several outdoor dining opportunities that allow visitors and residents to spread out, enjoy our beautiful island, and avoid crowds.”

To maintain social distancing, the new Rumble & Trek tour is limited to eight people, or up to 12 people in the same family or traveling together. Backed by its KeepWell™ Commitment and rigorous cleaning and sanitation protocols, Catalina Island Company also now offers private versions of its most popular activities including the Undersea Sub Expedition, Sea Life Safari, Bison Expedition, Ridgetop Eco Adventure, and the thrilling Zip Line Eco Tour.

Visitors can also take part in solitary activities like snorkeling, stand up paddle boarding, and hiking or biking the miles of trails found throughout Catalina. For a slower pace, guests can enjoy a leisurely lunch or sip a Catalina Unquarantini cocktail at Descanso Beach Club, Catalina Island's best beachfront dining venue, or Discover Avalon on a delightful journey through the heart of this friendly and historic town.
