The Catalina Wine Mixer is Real

Those familiar with the Step Brothers movie will immediately recognize the reference to the Catalina Wine Mixer. The loveable (and cult-favorite) movie follows Dale and Brennan, played by John C Reilly and Will Ferrell, who become stepbrothers in their 40s after their parents get married. The movie culminates in the planning of the "biggest helicopter leasing event in the Western Hemisphere," also known as the " F#$%@%! Catalina Wine Mixer."  

IIn 2015, the Catalina Island Company introduced the Step Brothers-inspired Catalina Wine Mixer™. This two-day event, held at the end of May, is a fun way to relive the movie, lines, and antics of the characters. 

The Catalina Wine Mixer™ is back in 2026 and better than ever! Now in its 11th year, this unique wine and music event promises a whole weekend of spectacular fun on gorgeous Catalina Island. The magic begins once you set off for the island on Friday. Whether you take to the sea with Catalina Express or Catalina Flyer or take a helicopter to really get in the spirit of things, your journey across the Pacific promises to be a scenic one. 

Start your trip at the newly refreshed Pavilion Hotel or Hotel Atwater, the Catalina Wine Mixer's official hotels, but don’t linger too long, because the VIP party begins at 5pm, with an exclusive reception at the Catalina Country Club. Over your choice of hors d'oeuvres and pours, you’ll get to know other partygoers and form incredible friendships. 

Later that evening, enjoy the opening bash at the Catalina Casino and a special screening of Step Brothers at the historic Avalon Theatre. The fun will continue at a late-night beach party at  Descanso Beach Club to get you warmed up for the main event. 

On Saturday, the official Catalina Wine Mixer™ takes over Descanso Beach Club from 3pm to 9:30pm. Just steps away from the shimmering water, you’ll enjoy live music, DJs, dancing, delicious foods, and of course, some fantastic wines from over 20 wineries.

VIP guests can take advantage of early access wine tastings on the Descanso Beach Club lawn from 2pm to 3pm. Pours from leading wineries will also be served alongside appetizers at the Catherine’s Terrace VIP Lounge from 2pm to 9pm.
