About Catalina Island Company
The Catalina Island Company was founded in 1894 by the Banning brothers, whose vision was to turn Catalina Island into a world-class tourist destination. That vision was carried forward when chewing gum entrepreneur William Wrigley Jr. bought the Catalina Island Company from the Bannings and began investing millions in infrastructure and attractions that would eventually entice millions of visitors a year to this beautiful island paradise. Today, the Catalina Island Company offers a complete resort experience, with a portfolio of offerings that includes Island Spa Catalina, Avalon’s only experiential spa; Mt. Ada, Catalina’s only Forbes 4-star accommodations; Descanso Beach Club, home of Avalon’s only beachside restaurant and bar; Harbor Sands, a South-Pacific-style oasis on the shore of Isthmus Cove in Two Harbors; and more than two dozen land and sea activities and adventures that showcase the beauty of Catalina.
