Experience Catalina Island like never before with Rumble & Trek, an exciting, two and a half hour expedition into Catalina's backcountry guided by a trained naturalist. Your trip begins aboard a biofuel Hummer* as you rumble your way into the hills of Catalina. Once you reach an altitude of 1602 feet, you'll arrive at the Airport-in-the-Sky and disembark. There, we’ll take a moment for some complimentary hydration (16 oz water bottle is provided) while you prep your cameras and stretch your legs to get ready for a 2.2 mile hike on the Airport Loop Trail.
Among the ongoing gorgeous vistas you’ll experience on the trail are El Rancho Escondido, Buffalo Springs and the former Soapstone Quarry. Your friendly guide, who is also a trained naturalist, will also tell you about the island’s highest points – Mt. Orizaba and Blackjack Mountain as seen in the distance. Your Rumble & Trek experience concludes with a famous cookie from the Airport’s DC-3 Grill before returning to Avalon via Hummer.
If you’ve got the desire and energy to experience both the natural ruggedness and scenic beauty of Catalina Island, Rumble & Trek is definitely for you. We’re confident you’ll enjoy your fill of some of the best views Catalina has to offer while getting some fun exercise along the way! Please note: the road can be rough at times, so Rumble & Trek is not suitable to anyone pregnant or with back problems, and all participants must be in good physical health.
*Did you know our island Hummers run on recycled vegetable oil? It’s true! We combine vegetable oil straight from our restaurants with diesel to produce renewable, clean-burning fuel for our vehicles.
