The first seaplane airport was located at Hamilton Cove in the 1930s. The Douglas Dolphin seaplanes would land offshore and then motor up a ramp to a giant turntable. After passengers disembarked, the turntable would be hand-pulled around so it was headed back towards the sea for its return flight.
