Graphic Designer

The Catalina Island Company is seeking a full-time, year-round Graphic Designer to work out of our Irvine, CA corporate office.

The Role:
Catalina Island Company is looking for a seasoned Graphic Designer who will be based in our Irvine office. We need someone with the PhotoShop chops and Illustrator instincts to help us tell exciting stories about all the amazing things to see and do on Catalina Island. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing incredible designs and creative ideas for print, web and digital. 
You’ll also have experience managing a busy production queue, and have keen eye for detail.  

You’ll thrive in a fast paced team environment and will be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

You must have experience working at either an advertising agency or corporate-side with a travel, tourism or luxury brand. 

The Team:
The marketing team is a small but mighty team at Catalina Island Company. The team consists of a director of marketing & communications, marketing & PR coordinator, copywriter and film liaison. You’ll be equipped and eager to handle all aspects of design from creative concepting to design to production. 

  • Design art and copy layouts for web, digital communications, magazines/newspapers, print collateral, signage, etc.
  • Generate various collateral, advertising, presentations and internal deliverables that are thoughtfully-designed and brand-compliant
  • Determine size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy, select style and size of type, and arrange layouts based on available space
  • Apply proper esthetics and principles of layout and design
  • Prepare instructions for vendors to assemble final layouts for printing
  • Adhere to and maintain company brand standards
  • Complete assignments on time and at optimum quality
  • Maintain, prioritize and track projects on a daily basis
  • Organize and maintain library of photos, logos and completed work
  • Keep projects within budget 
  • Research new, innovative vendors to help control costs (e.g. printers)
  • Assist with special projects as requested
  • Ability to travel to Catalina Island as needed
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Advanced in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, PhotoShop, InDesign and Acrobat) 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook)
  • Strong visual, verbal and written communicator
  • Understands style guidelines, design process, creative workflow and print production
  • Capable of taking a project from concept to completion
  • Knows principles of graphic design, layout and typography
  • Ability to execute designs efficiently and at a high level of quality
  • Keen eye for cost savings
Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or similar field from an accredited college/university or equivalent work experience
  • Experience from an advertising agency or experience in travel, tourism or luxury brands
  • Minimum 3 years of experience designing advertisements, posters/flyers, coupons, check stuffers, post cards, promotional materials, email blasts (in jpg and html), photography, signage, logos, postcards, direct mail, brochures, menus, stationery, and other identity graphics
  • Creating graphics for web or online environments
  • Experience developing and maintaining brand designs
  • Trafficking projects and managing a production queue
Language Skills:
Ability to effectively respond to questions from managers, clients, customers and the general public.  
Physical Requirements:
  • Requires visual acuity and ability to hear to clearly communicate with managers, coworkers, guests and vendors
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to reach with arms and hands
  • Must have hand to finger dexterity to be able to grip, grasp items and equipment
Salary Range: $56,000 - $$68,000
