The only incorporated city on Catalina, Avalon wraps around beautiful Avalon Bay on the southeast end of the island. A popular tourist destination for well over a century, this historic seaside destination has attracted film stars, dignitaries and presidents throughout the years, and it still maintains its charm and allure today. Avalon offers numerous hotels, restaurants, beaches, spa experiences, land & ocean adventures, a golf course and a host of recreational activities for visitors to enjoy.
Those arriving in Avalon via high-speed ferry will dock at the Cabrillo Mole boat landing. From there it’s a short walk to the main part of town. Luggage service is available for visitors staying at Pavilion Hotel or Hotel Atwater, and private transportation is provided for guests staying at Mt Ada.
Crescent Ave. is the main street surrounding Avalon Bay. Known by locals as Front Street, this scenic walkway features architectural elements like the Serpentine Wall and Wrigley Fountain adorned with authentic Catalina tile. Many of the town’s beaches, shops, and restaurants are found along Crescent Ave.
The Pleasure Pier, which extends out into the harbor near the junction of Crescent St. and Catalina Ave., is the launching point for all Catalina Island Company ocean tours, including Undersea Expedition, Glass Bottom Boat, Discover Two Harbors, Ocean Expedition, and Flying Fish Voyage.
The Tour Plaza, which is located one block from the beach between Catalina and Sumner Aves., is the starting point for all Catalina Island Company land tours, including Avalon Scenic Drive, Bison Expedition, Skyline Drive, Inland Expedition and East End Adventure. The Tour Plaza is also the drop-off and pick-up point for the Safari Bus, which travels between Avalon and Two Harbors.
