Charlie Chaplin and Paulette Goddard found Avalon to be a wonderful romantic getaway and spent a great deal of time on the island in the Thirties and Forties.


The Island Company was founded in 1894 by the Banning Brothers. The company was then purchased by William Wrigley, Jr. in 1919 with hopes of turning Catalina Island into a world-class resort destination. Descendants of the Wrigley family still own the Island Company today and continue to build on and enhance the vision of William Wrigley, Jr. We invite you to learn more about the Santa Catalina Island Company and it's long history as a first class resort company.

Santa Catalina Island Fact Sheet

The Santa Catalina Island Company was established in 1891 when the sons of American entrepreneur, Phineas Banning, bought Catalina Island to develop as a resort. In 1919, after a spate of bad luck, the Banning brothers were forced to sell their island in shares. One of the chief investors to purchase shares from the Bannings was William Wrigley, Jr.

Island Company Announces New Spa

Beginning in June 2014, Santa Catalina Island Company will pamper its guests at the Island Spa Catalina, the islands first-ever resort spa. Reflecting Catalina’s rich history and seaside atmosphere, Island Spa Catalina will offer a variety of pampering treatments and rejuvenating therapies using island-grown ingredients.

Catalina Island Welcomes the Laugh Factory Comedy Club

Comedy Nights headline new nightlife offerings from the Santa Catalina Island Company 
(Avalon, Calif.)– The Santa Catalina Island Company (SCICo) is partnering with the Laugh Factory Comedy Club this summer, bringing its world-famous entertainment to Avalon, Catalina Island, every Friday night starting July 12 through August 30. The twice-nightly shows take place in the courtyard of the Catalina Country Club at 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m., accompanied by a full bar and dinner menu.
