Catalina Island Heli-Hiking & Biking Packages
Just 26 miles off the coast of Los Angeles, adventure junkies can experience one of Santa Catalina Island Company’s thrilling hands on, packaged experiences. Taking guests to new heights, the Heli-Adventures showcase breathtaking views and allow guests to explore the natural, uninhabited beauty of Catalina Island via helicopter, trail trekking or pedal power.
The Pavilion Hotel offers two heli-adventure packages. Fair warning, both heli-adventures are not for the faint of heart and are physically challenging! Those who prefer to see the scenery on foot will enjoy the heli-hiking excursion. Hikers can choose from two routes - Empire Landing or Ballast Point, where they will be dropped off after a scenic helicopter ride up to the highest elevation and then make their way down the trail. The Empire Landing route includes trails with intermediate level ascents and descents while the Ballast Point hike proves to be more strenuous taking hikers from sea level to the ridge line bordering the town of Two Harbors.
Guests who enjoy cycling will favor the heli-bike tours. Heli-bike guests are met at the Two Harbors heliport and taken to the dive and recreation center, where they are outfitted with bikes and helmets suiting their needs. Guests then take to the unpaved and untouched roads of Catalina’s coastline and navigate through the island’s rugged interior.
A map (don’t worry you’ll have a guide too), snacks and plenty of water are provided for hikers and bikers during their heli-adventures! After the hiking or biking tour, adventurers are brought to Two Harbor’s reef restaurant for a relaxing lunch on the patio before re-boarding the helicopter back to Avalon.
Helicopter expeditions are one of many activities that the Santa Catalina Island Company offers to enhance the visitor experience and showcase the natural untouched beauty of the island.
