Live at Descanso Beach
As a follow up to the successful Castaway Concert Series of 2015, the Santa Catalina Island Company, in conjunction with Xceptional Music, has launched Live at Descanso Beach for 2016. The concert series kicks off over Memorial Day Weekend with Smash Mouth live on May 28th. Smash Mouth is an American rock band from San Jose, California. The band was formed in 1994, and was originally composed of Steve Harwell (vocals), Kevin Coleman (drums), Greg Camp (guitar), and Paul De Lisle (bass). They are known for songs such as "Walkin' on the Sun" and "All Star."
On July 8th we welcome an all star Double Headliner featuring Toad the Wet Sprocket and Rusted Root. Toad the Wet Sprocket is an American alternative rock band. They had their first chart success in the 1990s with singles which included "Walk on the Ocean", "All I Want", "Something's Always Wrong", "Fall Down", and "Good Intentions." Rusted Root is an American band from Pittsburgh, known for their fusion of acoustic, rock, world and other styles of music, with a strong percussion section that draws from African, Latin American and Native American influences. The band achieved fame in 1994 with its platinum-selling album “When I Woke”, which included hit single "Send Me on My Way."
On August 12th we welcome Canadian artist Coleman Hell. Coleman released his debut single, "2 Heads," in February 2015. His debut full-length album is expected to be released in 2016. After moving to Toronto, Hell released a free mixtape called Stark Raving followed by the VENA EP. On October 23, 2015, he released a self-titled six track EP, including the hit "2 Heads."
Our summer concert series concludes on September 3 with the Wailers! Together with Bob Marley, the Wailers have sold in excess of 250 million albums worldwide. In England alone, they’ve notched up over twenty chart hits, including seven Top 10 entries. Outside of their groundbreaking work with Marley, the Wailers have also played or performed with international acts like Sting, the Fugees, Stevie Wonder, Carlos Santana, and Alpha Blondy, as well as reggae legends such as Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, and Burning Spear.
