The world famous Steamers Jazz Club, located in Fullerton, CA since 1994, will present a weekly jazz series every Friday evening under the stars at the Catalina Country Club beginning May 27 – September 30. Each event will showcase Grammy Award winning straight-ahead and Latin jazz artists.
Chris Williams - June 3rd 6-10PMThis Canadian sensation has impressed audiences with his intense passion, vocal proficiency and musical maturity. Luther Hughes Presents the "Cannonball/Coltrane Project" - June 17th 6-10PMFeaturing alto saxophonist Bruce Babad and tenor saxophonist Glenn Cashman, The Cannonball-Coltrane Project remembers Cannonball Adderley and John Coltrane with warm feelings. Initially formed as an homage to the landmark 1959 Adderley-Coltrane album The Cannonball Adderley Quintet in Chicago, the group continues to pay tribute to its elders through exceptional interpretations of straight ahead jazz. Bassist Luther Hughes leads with the strength of Charles Mingus on this program of originals and familiar chestnuts. Besides Hughes on bass, the band features pianist Ed Czach and drummer Paul Kreibich.

Gina Saputo - July 8th 6-10PM"Gina Saputo is considered to be a rising star by many jazz enthusiasts." -- Carl Woideck, KLCC 89.7 NPR. Saputo was hand selected by Legendary Herbie Hancock, Terence Blanchard, and Wayne Shorter to study at the Thelonius Monk Institute where she honed her inimitable improvisational skills under their guidance. After two successful tours of Japan, her CD has climbed to #3 on the prestigious Swing Journal charts, and has received rave reviews from international jazz critics. Gina is also the vocalist for the OCMA's winning band for "Best Jazz" in Orange County.

Barbara Morrison - July 15th 6-10PMHer melodic voice, with its two--and--a--half--octave range, is known worldwide, as is her rich, unique, soulful and highly spirited interpretations of both standard jazz and blues classics, and original contemporary songs. Barbara Morrison was the lead vocalist on the soundtrack for the movie "The Hurricane", starring Denzel Washington. Morrison tours the globe and is featured with the Count Basie Orchestra, the Clayton--Hamilton Jazz Orchestra and Doc Severinsen's Big Band.

On Sticks & Stone, Vol. 1 Evan Stone is the bandleader, co-- producer, and still provides the unmistakable musical drumming style that is all his own. Stone has performed locally and internationally with artists such as: Maynard Ferguson, Greg Adams/ East Bay Soul; Toni Childs; Tom Scott; Diane Schuur; Eric Marienthal and Brian Bromberg. The Translucent Ham Sandwich Band, an Avant--Garde, multi--media group, is his latest project.

Peter Erskine/Alan Pasqua/Darek Oles Trio - September 9th 6-10PMErskine has won the Modern Drummer magazine Readers' Poll in the "Jazz Drummer" category 10 times, and was awarded an honorary Doctorate degree from the Berklee College of Music. Following his four years in Weather Report (having recorded five albums with them -- including the Grammy Award winning "8:30"), Peter Erskine began to play with Michael Brecker, Mike Mainieri, Don Grolnick and Eddie Gomez in the group Steps Ahead. Erskine's other touring and recording credits (500 albums & film scores) include Steely Dan, Diana Krall, Chick Corea, Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, Gary Burton & Pat Metheny, Joni Mitchell, Kurt Elling, Sadao Watanabe, Eliane Elias, Mike Stern, Kate Bush, Miroslav Vitous and Jan Garbarek; the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Ensemble Modern, the ASKO, Avanti, Remix & Absolute Ensembles, Bass Desires (with John Scofield, Bill Frisell, and Marc Johnson), the John Abercrombie Trio, the Kenny Wheeler Quintet & Big Band, the Yellowjackets and the Bob Mintzer Big Band. Charmaine Clamor - September 16thCelebrated by The New York Times as "a gifted vocalist" and by The Los Angeles Times as "one of the important and original new jazz singers of the decade," Filipino--American recording artist and cultural trailblazer Charmaine Clamor has earned her Queen of Jazzipino crown. ]. Her global recognition reached new heights in 2010 when Charmaine was the only Filipina to appear on the David Byrne/Fatboy Slim concept album, "Here Lies Love" (Nonesuch), about the life of Imelda Marcos. Charmaine was joined on the recording by luminaries such as Cyndi Lauper, Tori Amos, and Natalie Merchant. In 2009, Charmaine was signed to a multi--record deal with Viva Records, one of the largest pop music labels in Asia. As Viva's first and only jazz artist, her debut album, appropriately entitled Jazzipino, brought Charmaine's unique sound to millions of new listeners on Filipino radio and television.

Jeff Hamilton - September 23rd 6-10PMOriginality is what versatile drummer Jeff Hamilton brings to the groups he performs with and is one of the reasons why he is constantly in demand. In 1974, he got his first big break playing with the New Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. He then joined Lionel Hampton's Band until 1975 when he, along with bassist John Clayton, became members of the Monty Alexander Trio. Later he joined Woody Herman and the Thundering Herd, with whom he made several recordings. In 1978, he was offered the position vacated by Shelly Manne in the L.A.4 with Legendary Bassist Ray Brown. Jeff began his association with the Ray Brown Trio in 1988 and left in March 1995 to concentrate on his own trio. From 1999--2001, the Clayton/Hamilton Jazz Orchestra was named the in--residence ensemble for the Hollywood Bowl Jazz series. In addition, Jeff has been on nearly 200 recordings with artists such as Natalie Cole, Diana Krall, Milt Jackson, Rosemary Clooney, Barbara Streisand, Mel Torme, John Pizzarelli, Benny Carter, Lalo Schifrin, George Shearing, Dr. John, Clark Terry, Gene Harris, Toshiko Akioshi, Scott Hamilton, Harry "Sweets" Edison, Keely Smith, Bill Holman, Herb Ellis, Barney Kessel and Mark Murphy.

BruceForman/Graham Dechter - September 30th 6-10PM"Bruce Forman is one of the great lights of our age." Barney Kessel, Jazz Times. His numerous recording and performing credits include the likes of Bobby Hutcherson, Ray Brown, Freddie Hubbard, Richie Cole, Joe Henderson and Barney Kessel. Known for his swinging bop--style phrasing and inventive harmonizations, his ability to work in a variety of settings keeps him in constant demand. His guitar work is featured throughout Clint Eastwood's Academy Award--winning film," Million Dollar Baby". In 2005, Bruce Forman joined the Roger Kellaway Trio, a piano, guitar, bass ensemble. The trio's CD, Heroes, was presented with the 'Prix du Jazz Classique' Award in France in 2007.
Graham Dechter, Guitarist and Los Angeles native is one of the most promising young jazz musicians on the scene today. At Idyllwild Arts, Graham studied improvisation with legendary jazz bassist Marshall Hawkins and upon graduation, Graham entered the Jazz Studies program at the Eastman School of Music. After completing a year at Eastman, at the invitation of Jeff Hamilton, Graham moved back to Los Angeles to accept the guitar seat in the Clayton--Hamilton Jazz Orchestra. Dechter has performed and recorded with some of the most respected names in music, including: Ernie Andrews, Michael Buble, Regina Carter, Natalie Cole, Paquito D'Rivera, Kurt Elling, Benny Golson, Wycliffe Gordon, Benny Green, Roy Hargrove, Jimmy Heath, Jon Hendricks, Red Holloway, Quincy Jones, Wynton Marsalis, James Moody, Tom Scott, Clark Terry, Nancy Wilson, Phil Woods and Snooky Young.
