Avalon’s Only Campground
The Hermit Gulch Campground is Avalon’s only camping facility. Located 1.5 miles from the Avalon boat landing, the campground is situated on a tree-lined grassy field in Avalon Canyon, near the Wrigley Memorial and Botanical Garden. Hermit Gulch offers pretty views of the surrounding hills and access to hiking trails nearby.

Downtown Avalon is a just about mile down the hill from the grounds and a short 5 minute walk up the road is the Wrigley Memorial and Botanical Gardens. For hiking there is the Hermit Gulch Trail which provides views of Avalon Canyon, the mainland and on a clear day some of the other channel islands that are off the backside of Catalina. The Hermit Gulch Trail also connects to the famed Trans Catalina Trail.
There are 9 tent cabins and 40 campsites:
Tents are wood framed with wood floors, canvas walls and roof. We provide with each tent cabin; 6 fabric fold out cots, lantern, 2 burner stove with 1 canister of propane, picnic table and a BBQ stand.
Each campsite has a picnic table and BBQ stand. Most sites have an ample amount of shade provided by the many surrounding trees.

Directions to Campground
Hermit Gulch is located on Avalon Canyon Road 1.5 miles from downtown Avalon. Taxi service is available from the Avalon Boat Landing.

Equipment and tent cabin rentals are available on a daily basis (see above.)
Tips
Many campers enjoy the slight uphill hike from the Avalon Boat Landing. If you prefer, taxi service is available from the Avalon Boat Landing. Baggage service is available for a fee from the Catalina Boat Service, located at the Avalon Boat Landing.
VERY IMPORTANT: When booking online
- Click on "Book Now" button
- Under Reservation, make sure you enter correct date requested and number of people camping, if the site isn't available on the requested date, click on Calendar to see dates available
- Under Reservation, be sure to choose the proper campground under "Campground Requested," then refer to camping map for abbreviated campground listing
- Click on Rates to see total camping fees and select Reserve to make reservation
