PC Technician:

Responsibilities-
· Installing, configuring, testing, maintaining, monitoring, and troubleshooting end user networked peripheral devices, workstation hardware, workstation software, and networking hardware products.
· Performing on-site diagnosis, analysis, and resolution of complicated PC problems for various end users, and implementing and recommending corrective hardware solutions.
· Perform remote trouble shooting and support using RDP and VNC
· Monitor Help Desk phones, email, and ticket tracking system
· responsible for tracking hardware and software inventory
· Work on assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations
· Provide on-call afterhours support


Skills and Qualification:
2 -3 years PC technician or helpdesk experience
A+ Certification (prefer MCP)
Hospitality experience highly desirable
Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs

What We Do

The Santa Catalina Island Company has many factions.

  1. We own and lease real estate.
  2. We own and operate sightseeing tours on land and water. One of our tours, the Flying Fish Tour is the only one of its kind in the world!
  3. We own and operate the world-famous Casino Building. (Not a gambling casino. Our casino has an 1184 seat theater and a beautiful ballroom, which hosts many major events such as a Blues Festival, Jazz Festival and Country Music Festival.) We offer tours through this art-deco wonder every day.
  4. We own and operate a Campground right outside of Avalon.
  5. We own and operate two hotel properties. The Pavilion Hotel is just 14 steps from the beach and the Hotel Atwater is the largest hotel on the island.
  6. We run the only gas station in Avalon and own and operate our own fleet garage for our sightseeing equipment.
  7. In addition to all of the above, we have a planning department, and corporate offices to keep all of our business going.

Seasonal Employment Opportunities

Each year we hire approximately 150 seasonal employees. These employees come not only from around the country but from Europe as well. For some, this is their first job for others this is a supplement to their retirement, or a second career, and for still others, they love Catalina and return each summer to help others enjoy its beauty. Background Check is required for all positions.

Sightseeing Ticket Agent

Must be able to accurately handle numerous face-to-face sales transactions involving as many as a dozen sightseeing tour options. Help visitors plan their tours for maximum efficiency and enjoyment. Must work well with people. Will train. Uniforms provided.

Tour Guide

  1. ~ Tour Guide/ Sightseeing Ticket Agent

Tour Bus Driver

Excellent driving skills required. Minimum Class B license necessary. Must have passenger and airbrake endorsements. Must have good people and verbal skills and a sense of humor. Will narrate tours while driving winding mountainous roads. Training and uniforms provided. Teamster Union position subject to union contract and rules. Drug testing required.

Boat Lineman/Apprentice

Work involves tying up sightseeing boats, casting off lines, and sometimes putting boats on mooring. Must have good people skills also. Must be physically fit. Work outside. Advancement possible. Uniforms provided. Union position, subject to union contract and rules. Drug Testing required.

Deckhand

Work involves giving information and accurate spiels on sightseeing boats. Must have knowledge of boats, people skills, and the ability to speak in front of crowds. Must be physically fit. Work outside. Advancement possible. Uniforms provided. Union position, subject to union contract and rules. Drug Testing required.

Boat Operator

Operates glass bottom boats and semi-submersibles. Good boat handling essential. 50 ton license, Good speaking skills, and knowledge of marine life a must. Must be physically fit. Work outside. Advancement possible. Uniforms provided. Union position, subject to union contract and rules. Drug Testing required.

Hotel Bellman

Responsible for all guest baggage under the hotel’s care. Lobby, grounds, bathrooms and shower room maintenance. Staff the checkrooms of the hotel. Runs errands for the front desk. Responsible for light maintenance duties in guest rooms. Responsible for beach towel procedures and inventories. Gives local area information. Carries out bellman responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies and applicable laws.

Hotel Concierge

Staff the concierge desk of the hotel. Books phone reservations for hotel accommodations and transportation; gives local area information; provides camping information and reservations; provides customer service and problem solving. Sells tours to hotel guests and general public. Helps coordinate guest activities. Plays host. Carries out front desk responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies and applicable laws.

Hotel Front Desk Clerk

Staff the front desk of the hotel.  Books phone reservations for hotel accommodations and transportation; gives local area information; provides camping information and reservations; provides customer service and problem solving. Sells tours to hotel guests and general public. Helps coordinate guest activities. Plays host. Carries out front desk responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies and applicable laws.

Hotel Room Attendant

Responsible for cleaning of all guest rooms.  Maintain room supplies in rooms and on linen carts.  Check all equipment in guest rooms to assure everything is in proper working order. Carries out room attendant responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies and applicable laws. Position requires organizational skills, ability to work cooperatively with a variety of individuals (both guests and fellow employees) and demonstrate a positive and constructive attitude. Work with a variety of different cleaning agents and understand their use.

Sightseeing Ticket Agent

Handles all aspects of a customers= transaction using a computerized ticket program. Includes helping schedule tours, receive money and/or tour vouchers, provide refunds and direct customers to the tour departure area. Assist customers waiting in line for tickets by answering tour and schedule information questions. Record information for the cashier to include tour date/time marketing questions to expedite cashiering. Answer general questions about Santa Catalina Island, restaurants, hotels, directions and other attractions with a cheerful attitude. Handle upset customers in a tactful, considerate way, leaving them happy with the level of customer service they have received in addition to having had a good overall experience on the island.

Bartender

To consistently serve quality beverages according to established company and industry guidelines, while working with a sense of urgency to meet or exceed customer expectations. Arrive to work as scheduled wearing uniform issued by company and clock-in and wash your hands. Throughout your shift, maintain a safe working environment for guests and employees by adhering to established company procedures and industry regulations.  Be alert and consciences of your customer’s intake of alcohol and know when to stop serving a customer.  It’s your responsibility to ask for identification to verify a customer’s age.

Avalon Grille Cook

Arrive to work as scheduled, in uniform and prepared to work.  Clock-in and wash your hands. Maintain the highest standards of personal and professional conduct with managers, coworkers and customers. Comply with company policies and procedures at all times. Demonstrate a fundamental respect for our diversity, treating each other and our customers with respect. Demonstrate the behaviors and level of service appropriate with a fine dining restaurant. Ability to effectively handle customer requests and recognize when to refer a customer concern to a manager. Demonstrate a willingness to assist other members of the team, as needed.

Avalon Grille Dishwasher

Wash, dry and stack dishes, silverware and glassware through the shift. Flush out drain in dishwasher to prevent clogs. Clean and sanitize kitchen drains with soap and scrubber. Add bleach to each drain. De-lime drain in dishwasher to prevent buildup. Check for empty boxes and containers. Strip boxes and throw away in designated trash area. Monitor trash levels in kitchen garbage cans to avoid overflow. Pull and secure the bags, as needed. Transport and place trash in the bins. Maintain a safe working environment for employees by adhering to established company procedures and food industry regulations. Throughout the shift monitor the floors and work area around the dishwasher for spills and potential trip hazards. 

Zip Line Eco Tour Guide

This position is responsible for ensuring the safety and exceptional experience for all zip line riders. Responsibilities include setting up belay ropes, tying required knots, assisting participants in proper harness and helmet donning, ensuring the safe belay of all riders, demonstrating proper zipping techniques, operating the zip line activity, braking rider’s speed upon incoming approach, performing retrievals and rescues, inspecting equipment, and educating riders about Santa Catalina Island through an approved tour script. The Zip Line Guide is responsible for, but not limited to, the following essential duties:

  • Daily opening and closing procedures of Zip Line course.
  • Fit harnesses and helmets correctly and supervise the use of all safety equipment.
  • Conduct pre-tour safety orientation for each tour group.
  • Assure the safety and wellbeing of guests throughout each tour.
  • Perform course rescues.
  • Use customer engagement skills to ensure a memorable experience for each guest.
  • Educate riders about Santa Catalina Island through an approved tour script.
  • Conduct complete inspections of all course components and gear.
  • Assist with course maintenance efforts.     
  • Attend required meetings and trainings.

 

Appearance

We look for people who are clean, with normal (not extreme) hairstyles, no body piercing except for ears, and no visible tattoos. We start hiring in April, and add staff through June. Although we accept a few employees who have to leave us in August, we look for people who can stay at least through Labor Day.

Transportation To The Island

We do not pay your transportation to the island. There are three boat companies that come to the island: Catalina Explorer from Dana Point (310-510-9404), Catalina Passenger Service from Newport Beach (949) 673-5245 or (800) 830-7744, and Catalina Express from Dana Point, Long Beach and San Pedro (310) 519-1212 or 1(800) 618-5533. You will need to call for a reservation. Times of departures vary according to boat company, day of the week and time of year. Also the cost is different depending on which boat company you use. There’s also a helicopter service called Island Express from Long Beach and San Pedro 1 (800) 2Avalon.

What To Bring

Plan on warm days and cool nights. June can be downright chilly. In addition to your clothes, you’ll want to bring a set of dishes and pans for your own cooking needs, bed linens, including a pillow, for a single bed, and towels. You will also need I.D. and documents showing eligibility for employment in the United States, examples of these would be a valid driver’s license and social security card or U.S. Passport. You cannot start work without these! Call the Human Resource Department at (310) 510-2000 ext. 1250 for all acceptable forms of ID.
